Quick answer
Do you serve Byram, MS?
Yes. Exceptional Touch, a family-run home care agency in downtown Jackson, serves Byram, MS. Byram is in Hinds County, our home county, about 15 minutes from our office by I-55 South. We provide non-medical in-home care there, dementia and Alzheimer's care most of all, plus personal care, companionship, respite and 24-hour shifts. Private pay or a long-term care policy pays for it; Medicaid and Medicare do not.
The town itself
A young city on the Pearl River.
Byram is a young city with an old name. It was first incorporated in 1870, gave up its charter in 1931, and became a city again in June 2009. About 12,700 people lived here at the 2020 Census, up from about 11,500 in 2010, and Census Bureau estimates put roughly one in six residents at 65 or older. The houses are mostly newer single-family subdivisions along I-55, and most are owned by the people living in them.
Terry Road runs north to south and South Siwell Road runs east to west, with the stores clustered where Siwell meets I-55. There is no hospital in Byram. The nearest emergency rooms are Merit Health Central on Chadwick Drive and Mississippi Baptist on North State Street, each about 20 minutes north. For everyday appointments there is a Merit Health primary care clinic on Siwell Road. When your dad can no longer do I-55 himself, a caregiver can drive him north.
The Swinging Bridge (opens in new tab), a 1905 suspension bridge over the Pearl River on the National Register since 1979, has been walking-only since 2015, and the Swinging Bridge Festival comes around every late spring. On a good day, a caregiver can drive your parent out to see it.

Questions about Byram, answered.
Do you cover homes outside Byram, toward Terry?
Yes. Terry is on our list, and so is the country in between. Call and tell us the road.
Can you help a parent with dementia who lives alone in Byram?
We can help. A sitter or a regular caregiver on set days, up to 24-hour shifts if it comes to that, with a caregiver matched to your parent. Whether living alone is still safe is a conversation for the free visit, and we will be honest about it.
Is there help for a Byram parent who cannot pay privately?
Not from us directly; we are private pay and long-term care insurance only. A parent on Medicaid may qualify for the Elderly and Disabled Waiver, which pays for personal care and respite at home; the CMPDD Area Agency on Aging handles the case management. Start there; if private pay is still on the table afterwards, call us.
