A safe, tidy house

Light housekeeping for seniors at home in Jackson, MS

A clean, safe house, as part of the care. Laundry, linens, dishes, a wiped-down kitchen and bathroom, a clear path through the house, done inside a care visit by the caregiver matched to your parent.

Light housekeeping from Exceptional Touch is the everyday work that keeps your parent's home livable and safe: laundry, linens, dishes, a wiped-down kitchen and bathroom, tidying, trash out. It happens inside a care visit, alongside personal care and companionship. Not a maid service.

01What light housekeeping means

What does light housekeeping include?

The everyday work that keeps a home livable. Nobody hires a caregiver for the laundry. But when your mother can no longer carry a basket down the hall, it still has to get done. It is easier on everyone when the person who helps her dress also folds the clothes.

  • Laundry washed, folded and put away
  • Beds changed and linens kept fresh
  • Dishes done, counters and table wiped
  • Kitchen and bathroom wiped down
  • Dusting and vacuuming, tidying, trash out
  • A clear, safe path through the house

02Why it matters

Clutter is a fall waiting to happen.

A curled rug edge. A cord across the hallway. A stack of mail on the bottom stair. A fall often starts with something small on the floor, and a caregiver who walks that hallway every visit is the one who notices and moves it.

Clean linens matter too. Someone who spends most of the day in a bed or a chair needs sheets that are fresh and dry, and we keep them that way. That attention is the same reason families choose us for personal care at home.

03What it is not

Does in-home care include cleaning the house?

Not the way a maid service does, and we say so. Here is the line between our work and a cleaning company's.

What our caregivers do, and what a cleaning company does
We doA cleaning company does
Laundry, fresh linens and dishesDeep cleaning
Dusting and vacuumingShampooing carpets
Kitchen and bathroom wiped downWashing windows and ovens
A clear, safe path through the houseMoving furniture

We also do not do heavy lifting, repairs or yard work. If the house needs a real scrub before care begins, we will say so. A cleaning company can do that job while we do ours.

The housekeeping fits into the rhythm of the visit. Sheets get changed while your mother is in the shower. Dishes get done while the soup simmers. The rest of the visit is hers: a bath with dignity, a meal cooked the way she likes it, somebody to talk to. The house is clean because we were there, not because that is why we came.

Non-medical care. Light housekeeping is part of a non-medical care visit. We do not provide nursing, and medication support is reminders only, not administration. If we notice something that needs a doctor's eye, we will tell you and help you find the right provider.

Straight answers

What families ask about housekeeping.

Every schedule is built on the free in-home visit, from a few hours a week to round-the-clock care. Light housekeeping on a regular visit, in Richland, Florence and Canton as much as in Jackson.

Is light housekeeping a service on its own?

It is part of a care visit, not a standalone cleaning service. The caregiver who helps your mother bathe or cooks her lunch also does the laundry, dishes and tidying while she is there.

Do you do deep cleaning?

No. We keep the house clean and safe day to day. Carpets, ovens, windows, moving furniture and heavy lifting are for a cleaning company, and we will say so if the house needs one.

Will the caregiver do the whole household's laundry?

The caregiver's work is for your parent: their clothes, their bed, their dishes, their bathroom. If the household needs more, ask on the free in-home visit and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
