Time off, or all night

Respite care and 24-hour in-home care in Jackson, MS

A real break. Or someone there all night. A standing afternoon off each week, a weekend away, or round-the-clock coverage in shifts for a parent who should not be alone at night.

Exceptional Touch provides two kinds of coverage. Respite care is a scheduled break for the family caregiver, from an afternoon a week to a few nights of sleep. 24-hour care is round-the-clock coverage at home, in shifts, for someone who should not be alone at night. Both are non-medical, private pay and long-term care insurance, in Jackson and the towns around it.

01Respite care

What does respite care include?

You are allowed to rest. Asking for respite can feel like guilt. You have been the one who bathes your mother, cooks for her, gets up with her at night, and cancels your own plans. Then you apologize for wanting a Saturday. You are not abandoning her. You are making sure the person who does most of the caring is still standing next month.

Respite can be a standing afternoon each week, so you know Thursday is yours. It can be a weekend away, cover for your own doctor's appointment, or a few nights of real sleep while a caregiver takes the night. We set it up on the free in-home visit, with a caregiver matched to your parent. Extra coverage is booked ahead when you can plan it, and through the 24/7 line when you cannot.

0224-hour care

Someone awake, all night, in her own home.

Some parents should not be alone at night. The ones who get up at two in the morning certain it is time for church. The ones who wander. The ones who have fallen once and will not use the call button. For them, 24-hour care means a caregiver awake and on duty around the clock, in their own house, not a facility.

A night looks like this. The evening routine happens the way it always has: supper, the news, the same chair. When your mother gets up at three, she is walked back to bed without an argument, by a caregiver trained in dementia care. If evenings are the hard part, the National Institute on Aging has plain advice on sundowning (opens in new tab). In the morning there is a note for the next shift and for you.

03Shifts and cost

Always someone awake. Never one person all day and night.

We provide shift-based care: caregivers work in shifts, so someone is always awake and no one caregiver covers a whole day and night alone. The schedule is built on the free in-home visit and reviewed with you every week. We quote your rate on the free in-home visit, after we know the hours and the care.

What home care costs in Mississippi

Non-medical care. Respite and 24-hour care from Exceptional Touch is supervision, personal care, meals, companionship and a watchful presence. We do not provide nursing, and medication support is reminders only, not administration. If your parent needs medical care overnight, we will say so and help you find it.

Paying for respite

Does Medicaid pay for respite care in Mississippi?

Not through us.

We are private pay and long-term care insurance, and we do not bill Medicaid or Medicare. These programs may help, depending on your family.

Straight answers

What families ask about respite and nights.

A night shift usually includes personal care at bedtime and in the morning; a day shift carries companionship and meals. Respite and overnight shifts in Florence, Richland and up I-55 in Canton.

How much notice do you need for respite?

For a standing weekly break, none once it is on the schedule. For a weekend away or a few nights, as much as you can give us. Call the 24/7 line either way. If we can cover it, we will.

Is 24-hour care the same as live-in care?

No. We provide shift-based 24-hour care. Caregivers work in shifts so that someone is awake and on duty around the clock.

Can we start with one night to see how it goes?

Yes. You can start with one night or one afternoon a week. We set it up on the free in-home visit and build from there.
