Home care in Canton

In-home care in Canton, MS, the Madison County seat

Canton is the Madison County seat, about 35 minutes north of our office downtown. It is a longer drive than Madison or Ridgeland, and we make it.

Quick answer

Do you serve Canton, MS?

Yes. Exceptional Touch, a family-run home care agency in downtown Jackson, serves Canton, MS. It is the seat of Madison County, about 35 minutes from our office via I-55 North and Highway 22. The care is non-medical: dementia and Alzheimer's care, personal care, companionship, meals, light housekeeping, rides, respite and 24-hour shifts. Care is paid for privately or through a long-term care policy; we cannot bill Medicaid, and we say so up front.

The town itself

What we know about Canton.

Canton is a real small town, not a suburb. The Greek Revival courthouse on the square went up in 1855, the square has been on the National Register since 1982, and shops and restaurants still ring it. About 11,000 people lived in the city at the 2020 Census, down from 2010, and Census Bureau estimates put roughly one in six at 65 or older. The houses are older than in Madison, Ridgeland or Brandon, and more of them are rented than owned. The Canton Flea Market comes twice a year, in May and October, and draws up to 100,000 people.

Canton has its own hospital: UMMC Madison on River Oaks Drive, which many families still know as Merit Health Madison, with a 24-hour emergency room about 10 minutes from the square. That matters at our distance: the hospital your family already uses is close to the house.

Madison County's senior programs run from Canton. The Madison County Citizens Services Agency (opens in new tab) on West Peace Street serves group meals and runs discounted senior transportation. The Adult Learning Center on George Washington Avenue, run by the nonprofit Johnnie's Place, opened in late 2024 for people 60 and over.

Straight answers

Questions about Canton, answered.

Canton is a long way from downtown. Do you really come this far?

Yes. It is about 35 minutes from our office, up I-55 and in on Highway 22. What we have to get right is the caregiver, not the mileage: someone who can make that drive reliably on the days you need. We tell you on the phone whether we can.

Does Medicaid cover home care in Canton, MS?

No. Private pay and long-term care insurance only. If your mother is on Medicaid, ask about Mississippi's Elderly and Disabled Waiver, with case management through the CMPDD Area Agency on Aging in Pearl. We will point you there rather than sell you hours.

Can a caregiver take my mother to UMMC Madison?

For scheduled appointments, yes. It is about 10 minutes from the square, on River Oaks Drive. The caregiver drives, goes in with her and brings her home.
