Company and supervision
Companion care and sitters at home in Jackson, MS
Company for the long afternoons: conversation, church, dominoes, and a caregiver who stays close when your loved one should not be alone.
Exceptional Touch provides two kinds of company at home around Jackson. A companion talks, listens, plays and goes along. A sitter is a watchful presence for someone with dementia or after surgery, so nobody is alone. Both are non-medical.

01Companionship
What does a companion actually do?
Loneliness wears people down, and a daughter with a job and kids in Flowood cannot be at her mother's table every afternoon.
A companion fills the afternoon with something real. Dominoes at the kitchen table. Church, and the fellowship hall after. A ride to an old friend in Byram. The hobbies your mother stopped because nobody was there to do them with.

02Sitters
When does your loved one need a sitter?
A sitter is for when your loved one cannot safely be alone: a parent with dementia who wanders, someone unsteady after surgery, a husband whose wife needs one full night of sleep.
Sitters watch, help with small things, keep the routine going and call you if anything changes. We do not provide nursing, and we say so up front. See dementia care at home, or respite and 24-hour care for nights and full days.
“They treated and cared for my mother as if she was their mother. Very compassionate, caring, dependable and professional.”
A sitter's shift
What does a sitter do during a shift?
A sitter is there so your mother is never on her own. Over a shift, that looks like this.
- Stays in the room, or within earshot, the whole shift
- Keeps your mother from wandering out the door or trying the stairs alone
- Helps her to the bathroom and back
- Warms supper and makes sure she drinks something
- Medication reminders at the times you set
- Checks in with you every week

03Matching
How we match a companion to your mother
We come out for a free in-home visit and meet your loved one: what she likes, what she used to do, what a good day looks like. Then we match a caregiver to her, not just the schedule.
The first visit is quiet on purpose. Coffee, a chat, the photographs on the wall. The goal is a caregiver your mother looks forward to seeing, who can also drive her to church or the store.
Non-medical care. Our companions and sitters do not provide nursing or medical care. Medication support is reminders only, not administration. If your loved one needs medical care, we will point you to the right provider.
Straight answers
What families ask about companions and sitters.
Companionship is one of eight ways we help at home.
What is the difference between a companion and a sitter?
A companion is there for company and everyday help. A sitter is there so your loved one is never alone. Either way, we match the caregiver to your loved one and check in with you every week.
Can a companion take my mother to church or the store?
Yes. Rides to church, appointments, the store and to see friends are part of what we do, with the caregiver at her side.
How many hours do we need?
As few or as many as help: from a few hours a week to 24-hour care.
Can a sitter stay overnight?
Yes. Overnight sitters and 24-hour care in shifts. Tell us what the nights look like.
How much does a sitter cost?
The 2025 CareScout Cost of Care Survey puts Mississippi's median rate for a non-medical caregiver at $24 an hour. We quote your rate on the free in-home visit, after we know the hours and the care.
