Quick answer

Do you serve Florence, MS?

Yes. Exceptional Touch, a family-run home care agency in downtown Jackson, comes to Florence, MS. It is in Rankin County, about 20 minutes from our office by I-55 South and US 49 South. We provide non-medical in-home care: dementia and Alzheimer's care, personal care, companionship, respite and 24-hour care. Our families pay out of pocket or through long-term care insurance, never through Medicaid or Medicare.

The town itself

In-home care in a small town that is growing.

Florence is small and growing. About 4,600 people lived there at the 2020 Census, up from about 4,100 in 2010, and it is filling in northward toward Richland with the Pearl River as its edge. It is a young place: Census Bureau estimates put only about one resident in nine at 65 or older, well below Brandon or Richland.

The houses are mostly newer, on quiet streets off Highway 49 in subdivisions like Rolling Hills, Cleary Grove and Steen's Creek, and most are owned by the families in them. The town began as Steen's Creek, after the family who settled there in the 1820s, and Steen's Creek Elementary keeps the name.

There is no hospital in Florence. Mississippi Baptist and St. Dominic in Jackson are each about 20 minutes away, and Merit Health River Oaks in Flowood about 25. When the drive up 49 gets to be too much for her, a caregiver can take it. For company, the Florence Community Center (opens in new tab) on South Church Street, beside Hemphill Park, holds Senior Game Day on the first and third Wednesdays from 9:30 to noon.
