01Who this is for

An adult child at home, or in a place of their own.

This is for an adult son or daughter with an intellectual or developmental disability, such as Down syndrome. Some still live at home with parents who are getting older themselves. Some live in their own apartment with support a few days a week. Either way, the parents have carried it for decades.

We come to wherever your son or daughter lives, from a few hours a week to daily support. Usually we can start within a few days of the free in-home visit.

02What the support looks like

What does in-home support for an adult with a disability include?

  • Morning and evening routines, kept the way they like them
  • Meals cooked together, and help with eating if needed
  • Bathing and dressing, only where needed and always with dignity
  • Cooking, gardening, dominoes, church, the library, a walk
  • Rides to a day program, a job or an appointment, with the caregiver alongside
  • A real break for you, an afternoon or a few days

03How we work

Respect, patience, and their own pace.

Your son or daughter is an adult. We talk to them, not over them. We let them do what they can and help with the rest. If your son likes to cook, the caregiver cooks with him. If your daughter wants to get out more, they go out.

We match a caregiver to your son or daughter, on interests as much as on schedule. Someone who loves to garden gets a caregiver who does not mind dirt on her hands.

The quiet question

What happens when I cannot do this anymore?

You have probably asked yourself this at three in the morning.

We cannot arrange long-term placement and we do not give guardianship advice. What we can do is start now, so your son or daughter gets used to a trusted person who is not you, and you get to rest while you plan.

Paying for it

Does Medicaid or the ID/DD Waiver pay for this?

Not through us.

Here is what we take, and where to read about the waiver.

Paying for support

We quote your rate on the free in-home visit, after we know the hours and the care.

  • What we do not bill
